Tripoli Embodies the Spirit of Unity and Togetherness:Spiritual Leaders Visit City University to Strengthen Academic and Cultural Cooperation

In a scene that reflects the spirit of unity and connection between spiritual leaders and educational institutions in Tripoli, City University welcomed a delegation of Maronite bishops. The delegation included Archbishop of the Maronite Archdiocese of Tripoli, Bishop Youssef Soueif, accompanied by Chancellor Father George Gréïg and Monsignor Joseph Ghabach. Also present was Archbishop Edouard Daher, head of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archdiocese of Tripoli and Northern Lebanon. The Orthodox Church was represented by Father Samir Gabriel Yakoumi, delegated by Metropolitan Ephraim Kyriakos of Tripoli, Koura, and their districts—an embodiment of the commitment to ongoing communication with all components of Tripoli’s diverse community.

University President Dr. Walid Dagher, along with several deans, received the visiting delegation. The meeting opened with a welcoming speech by Dr. Dagher, during which he introduced the bishops to the university’s strategic vision, outlining its educational mission in serving the people of the North. He also highlighted the academic and cultural activities the university continues to uphold despite various challenges.

The deans then took the floor, offering detailed presentations about the available academic programs and shedding light on notable success stories of students and graduates who have secured leading positions in the job market—an indication of the university’s high-quality education and its ability to keep pace with modern demands.

For his part, Bishop Youssef Soueif praised the academic initiatives, commending the enlightening role played by City University—not only as a place of learning, but also as a space for dialogue and human development. He also offered constructive ideas to strengthen future cooperation between the Archdiocese and the university, with particular focus on the fields of tourism and literature, given Tripoli’s rich cultural and historical heritage that requires combined academic and spiritual efforts to highlight.

The visit concluded with an extensive tour of the campus buildings and facilities, where the delegation closely examined the university’s infrastructure and modern equipment. The tour was not limited to the physical spaces; it also embraced the human side through direct interaction with the students. Members of the spiritual delegation made spontaneous, fatherly stops in the courtyards and hallways to speak with students, listening to their concerns and aspirations, and encouraging them to hold firmly to education as their path toward a better future.
