The Faculty of Public Health at City University Holds Advisory Council Meeting for Nursing Program with Lebanon’s Head Nurse in Attendance
The Faculty of Public Health convened a meeting of the Advisory Council for its Nursing Program, chaired by Dean Dr. Riyad Madani and attended by University President Dr. Walid Dagher. The council was established to support the department’s efforts in developing its academic programs according to the latest national and international standards, and to advance the program’s global accreditation (ACEN), ensuring the preparation of qualified nursing professionals who meet labor market needs and contribute to high-quality healthcare.
The council aims to strengthen collaboration between the university and healthcare institutions and to provide strategic guidance in curriculum development, clinical training, and research. This ensures the graduation of highly competent nurses who can advance the profession and serve the community effectively.
The meeting included a distinguished group of academic and professional figures: Lebanon’s Head Nurse, Ms. Abir Allam; Mr. Hossam Al-Shami, General Director of the Ibn Sina Health and Social Center and head of the Popular Ambulance Authority in Tripoli; Ms. Carol Suleiman, Director of the Nursing Sciences Institute at the Lebanese Red Cross in Tripoli; Mr. Ziad Maqdadi, representing the ANERA organization; and Dr. Najib Haddad, representing the university’s consulting partner “CATALYST Training Lab,” which oversees the accreditation process, alongside the academic accreditation team. Professors and trainers from various hospitals were also present.
The meeting opened with a welcoming speech by University President Dr. Walid Dagher, who expressed appreciation for the attendees’ essential contributions to supporting the academic program and enhancing graduates’ professional competence.
Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Dr. Riyad Madani, emphasized that the launch of the Advisory Council represents a pivotal step in strengthening cooperation between the university and healthcare institutions, supporting curriculum development, practical training, and research. He highlighted the council’s vital role in preparing outstanding nurses committed to professional standards.
The meeting included an extensive discussion on reviewing program performance indicators, including graduation rates, licensure exam pass rates, and employment outcomes, with consideration of international accreditation requirements (ACEN) to ensure alignment with the highest academic and professional standards. Additionally, recent trends in healthcare and required competencies were examined, leading to a set of strategic recommendations designed to further develop the program and ensure its sustainability.
