City University Engineering Students Organize a Solidarity Day to Support Breast Cancer Patients
Students from the Faculty of Engineering at City University, under the supervision of the Office of Student Affairs and in collaboration with the Islamic Charity Hospital, organized a solidarity day in support of breast cancer patients.
The event began with a speech by engineering student Reem Jbeili, followed by remarks from Dr. Abdel Fattah Al-Kheir, a specialist in hematology and oncology at the Islamic Hospital, who emphasized that early detection is the first line of defense against the disease, saying: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
Then, Dr. Hiba Al-Sheikh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, expressed her pride in the students, praising their volunteer spirit and humanitarian values that truly reflect the university’s mission and ethics.
For her part, Mrs. Janan Karami stressed that this initiative demonstrates genuine commitment from everyone involved to support breast cancer patients, pointing out that such support goes beyond medical care to include emotional encouragement and spreading hope and love.
Meanwhile, University President Dr. Walid Dagher thanked Dr. Hiba Al-Sheikh and Mr. Dany Hrayki, whom he described as “the unsung hero.” He commended the engineering students for their initiative and highlighted that, in partnership with the Islamic Hospital and under the leadership of MP Faisal Karami, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the university operates with a clear vision to serve the city of Tripoli and the North.
During the event, participants wrote and signed messages on a large board dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the day concluded with a Bake Sale organized by the engineering students. They sold homemade sweets and dishes, donating all proceeds to support breast cancer patients at the Islamic Hospital — reaffirming the university’s strong spirit of solidarity and giving.
