City University Commemorates the 82nd Independence Day Under the Patronage of Mrs. Janan Karame
In a patriotic atmosphere, City University celebrated Lebanon’s 82nd Independence Day under the patronage of Mrs. Janan Karame.
The ceremony opened with the Lebanese national anthem, followed by a speech from the University President, Dr. Walid Dagher, who emphasized the significance of independence. He noted that Independence Day reminds us of the struggle of our heroes—Abdel Hamid Karami and his companions—and remains a source of pride for every Lebanese citizen. He expressed his deep gratitude to the students and to everyone who contributed to organizing the event, from administration to staff, stressing that true independence is reflected when we stand together with love and cooperation to raise a responsible generation devoted to its homeland.
Mrs. Janan Karame then delivered a speech in which she expressed her joy in taking part in the celebration. She highlighted the symbolism of the Lebanese flag and Independence Day in strengthening national identity.
“We celebrate today two pillars of our national identity: the Lebanese flag, which represents our country’s history, the dignity of its people, and their sense of belonging; and Independence Day, which reminds us of the sacrifices of the men who carried the banner of freedom—foremost among them Abdel Hamid Karami and his courageous companions. It is the tree that gave rise to Rashid, Omar, and Faisal, who believed in institutions and helped build the educational sector.”
She affirmed that the youth and students are the true hope for preserving Lebanon’s independence and its values, offering her appreciation to the university administration, faculty, staff, and to every student who carries a sincere love for the nation.
She concluded: “We raise the flag high to affirm that Lebanon will endure as long as there are people who believe in their country.”
During the flag-raising, Dr. Dagher remarked that the flag raised today on the university campus reflects their hopes and aspirations that it may continue to fly proudly over all of Lebanon, especially in the South.
The celebration concluded with a special surprise marking Mrs. Janan Karame’s birthday, where a cake-cutting took place along with commemorative photos.
