Zayed Bin Sultan Public Libray
The objective of the Library is to support the teaching and Research activities of the University as well as the Community at large.
It endeavors to build an outstanding collection of Information Sources – print and electronic – to meet the needs of the university’s instructional and research programs. The Library is dedicated to acquire, organize and disseminate recorded knowledge and information and provide high quality services to Instructors, Students, and to the Community in order to fulfill the information needs by utilizing best available resources and latest information technologies.
In order to achieve these goals, the university library is planning to:
- Build, with the collaboration of Professors and Instructors, a core collection of the more important and heavily used academic and intellectual books, journals, and other resources relevant to the curriculum and community.
- Provide open access to available information sources.
- Create an Institution-wide research environment for Students, Instructors, and the Community.
- Actively support and participate in achieving the educational and research objective of the City University.
- Contribute to the educational process by utilizing both traditional resources as well as new technologies that promote intellectual exploration and learning.
- Educate the users to enhance their research and information literacy skills.
- Collaborate with other libraries by exchanging documents/information.
- Maintain liaison with various libraries of national and international organizations.
WHO CAN BORROW:
All registered students, instructors, and staff and public members are entitled to borrow material from the library. Borrowing privileges may differ depending on the member category. All library patrons must produce a valid ID card when borrowing any material.
Borrowed library materials may be returned to the circulation desk during library hours. Books should be returned on or before the due-date assigned. Fines are imposed on overdue item(s).
LOAN PERIOD:
1- Public: 1 item per checkout for a period of 7 days
2- Students: 4 items per checkout for a period of 7 days
3- Academic Staff: 5 items per checkout for a period of 3 months.
4- Non-Academic Staff: 2 items per checkout for a period of 14 days.
RENEWALS/REISSUE:
Library material can be renewed twice if it is not reserved by any other library member. Renewals cannot be done via telephone or email. Library items are required to be present physically for renewal.
RESERVATIONS:
Members can reserve library items which are out on loan. Each member is allowed to reserve a maximum of 2 items at one time.
LOST OR DAMAGED LIBRARY MATERIALS:
If an item out on loan is lost or damaged, the borrower will be responsible for it and he/she must pay the cost of replacing or repairing the material. Payment for or replacement of lost materials will have to be settled within a given grace period of 30 days. An additional charge may be included to cover the administrative costs of replacing the material.
LOAN OF CD-ROMS, VIDEO’S & CASSETTES:
CD-ROMs that come as a book supplement can be copied and then borrowed. The borrower should ensure that CD’s, Video’s and cassettes borrowed are in good condition prior to borrowing. Borrowers are liable for any damage to audiovisual material whilst in their possession.
FINES:
Fine on overdue items:
An item will become overdue if it is not returned or renewed on or before the due date. A fine of $0.5 per day for students and $1.00 for Academic, Non Academic staff and the public; per item will be charged on overdue books and other library items.
Rules of the library are to be followed by all users in the library. Library users are encouraged to familiarize themselves with them.
- Eating and smoking are not allowed in any area of the library.
- We are not responsible for any lost or damaged property you leave unattended in the library.
- You are not allowed to play games in the library, computers are for research purposes only.
- Conversation should be avoided in reading areas of the library.
- Cell phones must be turned off or silenced in the library.
- Students are not allowed to sit on the tables and to draw on them.
- PLEASE do not re-shelve library materials; leave them on the table or a designated area.
- Do not move furniture around; leave it as you found it.
- Please keep the library clean. Don’t throw garbage on the floor.
- Penalties will be imposed upon left and damaged items from the library.
