A field tour for students of the Faculty of Tourism at City University in the heart of the heritage-busting city of Tripoli

Within the framework of the applied activities of their study program, students of the Faculty of Tourism at City University undertook a field tour to the city of Tripoli, within the “Discover Lebanon” subject, accompanied by Dr.Rasha Sultan, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty, Dr.Iman Baba.

The tour aimed to introduce students closely to the rich historical and cultural components of the city, and to deepen their practical knowledge in the field of tourism, which gave them the opportunity to interact directly with its heritage landmarks.

The trip began with a visit to the Citadel of Tripoli, one of the oldest and most prominent archaeological monuments in Lebanon, where students delved into its ancient history while wandering through its corridors, listening to a detailed explanation about the stages of its construction and development throughout the ages. Then they headed to the Grand Mansouri Mosque, where they discovered the beauty of its unique architectural style and its religious impact on the lives of Tripolitans.

The tour was not limited to historical and religious monuments, but also included Tripoli’s markets, which reflect in their alleys and crafts the city’s cultural and social history. There, students experienced the vibrant atmosphere and learned about the vital role these markets play in shaping Tripoli’s identity and preserving its memory.

In conclusion, this tour was not just a historical exploration, but rather constituted a rich and inspiring experience that enhanced students’ awareness of the importance of heritage tourism as an integral part of national identity, and contributed to opening new horizons for their future role as protectors of this precious cultural heritage.
