A delegation from the Tripoli Tourism Association visits City University to strengthen academic and tourism cooperation

A delegation from the administrative board of the Tripoli Tourism Association, headed by Dr. Hind Al-Soufi and including Dr. Bassem Assaf, Ms. Fayza Al-Sibai, and Mr. Mohammad Hajar, visited City University to enhance avenues of mutual cooperation. They were received by the University President, Dr. Walid Dagher, and the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Dr. Iman Al-Baba.

The meeting focused on ways to restore Tripoli to its rightful place on Lebanon’s tourism map, highlighting the city’s most prominent landmarks—especially its rich heritage sites that span successive historical eras. Tripoli is one of the largest and most significant historic cities on the eastern Mediterranean coast and ranks second after Cairo in terms of its Mamluk-era monuments, which reflect the legacy and heritage of that period. The city is also known for its notable Ottoman-era sites, having once served as the administrative center of the coastal province in the Levant.

Participants exchanged several practical proposals aimed at revitalizing tourism activity and giving the “City of Perfume” the vibrant image befitting its deep-rooted history, distinguished legacy, and longstanding openness to the world through knowledge, scholarship, and culture. Tripoli has always warmly welcomed visitors and tourists with hospitality and an inclusive spirit.

Both sides agreed to maintain ongoing cooperation and coordination between the university and the association in fields related to their shared goals, particularly tourism and cultural initiatives. They also discussed developing an index to measure tourist activity in the city and track its growth. Additionally, it was agreed that students in the Faculty of Tourism would receive research certificates to enrich their CVs and academic portfolios.

The discussion also covered potential support for the Smart Tourism digital platform, which aims to connect Tripoli with the world across various domains. Work is underway to translate this initiative into reality through a cooperation protocol that includes all provisions necessary to advance the project and elevate the city to the ranks of more developed urban destinations.

The details of this partnership will be announced during a formal signing ceremony, after which implementation will begin in coordination with stakeholders at both official and community levels.
